What are your suggestions for the admissions office?

"n/a" More from this Member | Report Response

"No suggestions" More from this Member | Report Response

"Unable to complete tour and travel and all of the general info sections due to COVID and virtual interviews" More from this Member | Report Response

"They responded so fast. Mr. Rose cares and is so helpful!" More from this Member | Report Response

"A dorm tour" More from this Member | Report Response

"Involve student and faculty more" More from this Member | Report Response

"To increase the eco-friendliness of this school, have recycling. Also, remember the attitude you show affects the feelings students have. If you are bickering amongst yourselves, students see this and remember. It affects the way they feel about the school." More from this Member | Report Response

"Let students give the tour, offer beef/chicken for lunch" More from this Member | Report Response

"allow us to interact more with current students" More from this Member | Report Response

"would be nice if students gave the tour instead of admissions" More from this Member | Report Response

"Nothing!" More from this Member | Report Response

"Online fee payments would make the application less stressful for everybody." More from this Member | Report Response

"No more paper applications. Also to give a feedback survey for the interview day if they truly want to improve it, instead of talking about what someone posted on SDN in front of applicants." More from this Member | Report Response

"Consider an online secondary application system." More from this Member | Report Response

"divide the groups for interviews equally, like 4 groups of 4, instead of 1 with 5 one with 3, a few with 4. Makes the day uneven when we have to wait for the other groups to finish. Otherwise, excellent day." More from this Member | Report Response

"More interaction with students." More from this Member | Report Response

"Not sure what the point of a stress interview is considering how new this school is...made me not want to attend." More from this Member | Report Response

"I think the admissions office did a great job overall, most of the points that I docked were due to external factors (such as location) which the school cannot control." More from this Member | Report Response

"If they were to send out interview invites and ask us for confirmation or scheduling, it'd be better if a holiday did not conflict with the response. Most of us waited almost a week (close to the deadline given for us to schedule) before we got any response." More from this Member | Report Response

"The admissions office came off as very disorganized this cycle, likely due to the new director, other admin, faculty and students made up for it on interview day, though." More from this Member | Report Response

"They need to be more aware of what their professors are doing in front of the interviewees that could cause them to view the school in a negative light. For example a professor throwing his wallet at a secretary and shouting at a secretary does not reflect well on the school. Also I understand that some interviews are meant to be stressful, but interviewers should never be rude and insulting to people who have worked hard and spent a lot of money to be there." More from this Member | Report Response

"Nothing at all, they are VERY organized and extremely friendly!" More from this Member | Report Response

"They should allow students to submit secondaries online. You know, to save the trees." More from this Member | Report Response

"obed is nice you can tell he takes his job seriously and works hard. Cherie is super sweet and helpful." More from this Member | Report Response

"It was a nice interview day. I would have appreciated a presentation about school and curriculum. Precision on board scores also would have been good." More from this Member | Report Response

"i wish we had a more thorough overview of the academic program. but overall, it was a good day." More from this Member | Report Response

"Please don't have a 30 minute lecture on how to impress the interviewers. We are pre-medical students and we know about the importance of having a great impression on them. Also, I think it would be best if interviews were open file. If the interviews are going to be "good cop, bad cop" style it would be beneficial to both interviewer and interviewee to have an open file interview. This way, any concerns or questions about our application can be addressed." More from this Member | Report Response

"Formal presentation about the school. Selling the school's strengths and making us want to go there." More from this Member | Report Response

"Have someone talk about the curriculum, or at least have a handout outlining the various courses." More from this Member | Report Response

"They are on time with getting back with applicants. They are very friendly." More from this Member | Report Response

"The pre-interview pep talk just makes everyone more nervous" More from this Member | Report Response

"Less time spent prepping us for the interview in the morning, it made us nervous" More from this Member | Report Response

"Greater degree of contact with applicants prior to the interview would help me be better prepared." More from this Member | Report Response

"Include a session to discuss more about the location since the school is located in Harlem." More from this Member | Report Response

"Obed is very good, helpful and has insightful suggestions." More from this Member | Report Response

"Make sure the students that serve as tour guides are somewhat professional. Provide a better lunch." More from this Member | Report Response

"Try to be more realistic when telling us how long it will take for you to send the interview invite" More from this Member | Report Response

"stop using NYPD detective tactics during med school interviews" More from this Member | Report Response

What do you like most?

"Faculty is really wonderful and will bend over backwards to make sure you get the best education possible - even during COVID. Format of grading promotes class collaboration - classmates are mostly non competitive." | Report Response

"The admin and professors and ORMC is beautiful and new" | Report Response

"Faculty is amazing." | Report Response

"High quality lectures, high quality instructors" | Report Response

"The professors are truly amazing. They care for their students and it shows in their devotion to the curriculum. The quality of the education is top notch. The flipped classroom with lectures that are recorded gives you the ability to watch videos as many times as you would like and is an amazing resource even after classes are over for board prep." | Report Response

"The basic science curriculum is phenomenol" | Report Response

What do you like least?

"Classes are still mostly graded (A,B,C) and attendance is essentially mandatory (although remote during COVID). This has its own pros and cons, but you might feel like you're doing some things just to collect points and not to learn." | Report Response

"The town was pretty quiet/not fancy." | Report Response

"Administration is not the nicest.." | Report Response

"I wish we had a nicer campus" | Report Response

"The administration can be difficult. It is sometimes hard to make changes in certain aspects of the school such as clicker grading and the mandatory attendance policy. While we are not in class for many hours a day, it would be nice to be able to change the clicker policy, which has not yet happened. The administration can seem to be stuck in their ways, but I think that is possible with any school." | Report Response

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.

About the SDN Ranking

SDN Ranking identifies how SDN members perceive the quality of a school relative to other schools of the same type (e.g., other Medical Schools, other Dental schools, etc.). Schools are ranked from 1, perceived as much worse than other schools, to 5, perceived as much better than other schools.
