School Info

As northeast Ohio's public medical college, the mission of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine is to graduate qualified physicians who are passionate about serving their communities. All of our graduates, regardless of specialty, have a solid background in community and public health. With an emphasis on primary care, family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology, NEOUCOM strives to improve the quality of health care throughout northeast Ohio by instilling in each graduate the desire to serve the public and the highest ideals of the medical profession.

Curriculum

NEOUCOM's Integrated Steps Curriculum is designed to develop the characteristics that people say they want to see in their doctors: competence, communication, caring, character and community. NEOUCOM offers several routes to admission for those seeking a doctor of medicine degree: B.S./M.D., direct entry or transfer admission.

Facilities

NEOUCOM's clinical teaching facilities include 17 community hospitals, eight of which are major teaching facilities. Together these hospitals provide the resources of approximately 6,500 beds and nearly 1,800 clinical faculty members. NEOUCOM students are trained in community hospitals and ambulatory care settings, orienting them to the practice of medicine at the community level. Their experiences range from critical, acute medical situations to everyday patient care and offer constant interaction with clinical faculty and resident colleagues.

What do you like most?

"Some of the faculty are ok" | Report Response

"Curriculum. Match list." | Report Response

"The cost of living isn't terrible in the area" | Report Response

"Close-knit atmosphere, interprofessional learning environment" | Report Response

What do you like least?

"The curriculum is terrible they started doing this PI think and I learn nothing there and waste 3-4 hours of my day there. On top of that there is a ton of busy work that makes it even worse. The students keep telling on each other to the admin over petty things making the experience even worse. The admins don't really care about the students and don't take us seriously. Feels like I am back in elementary school. If you want a nice school that will actually support you avoid this school. Got bullied by other students talked to the admin about it and didn't care as well. If you actually want to do well on step and get into a good residency would avoid the school like the plague." | Report Response

"Students are treated like a number here. The mental health and well-being of students is not prioritized. The curriculum is objectively awful as the accreditation offices are constantly giving the school low ratings and closely monitoring them. I would highly recommend against attending this school. Very few medical students have a satisfactory experience during their 4 years here." | Report Response

"Location, BS/MD program" | Report Response

"Absolutely everything. Tuition going up every single year while services to students decline, we closed our physical fitness center last year, they took away our student lounge, and they also took away several parking lots. Somehow this means tuition should go up. Go figure." | Report Response

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
